The course explores the possibilities and challenges for democratizing global governance, with a special focus on transnational actors. Drawing on the most recent research within this field, it examines important trends in governance beyond the nation-state as well as the extent to which such governance can be made more democratic. Governance arrangements ranging from formal international organizations to multi-stakeholder partnerships are covered as well as a broad range of transnational business and civil society actors. Both empirical and normative issues are examined.
