The Graduate School takes a pluralistic and interdisciplinary approach to International Studies, welcoming all students and faculty members focused on important research questions with an international dimension. In past years, relationships forged in the Graduate School have led to a number of exciting new initiatives, including:

Stockholm University Forum for Security Research

The Forum for Security Research encourages collaboration and learning amongst scholars in the field of security studies. Events and workshops are held regularly to foster a productive academic community at Stockholm University on security matters. For more information, contact Professor Ulrika Mörth

Centre of Excellence in Security Technologies and Societal Values

The Nordic Centre of Excellence in Security Technologies and Societal Values is a group of scholars focused on understanding modern security cooperation in the Nordic and European region. Special emphasis is placed on how new security technologies interact with evolving societal values, such as civil liberties, personal privacy and security expectations. The Centre is funded by Nordforsk and includes Stockholm University and seven other Nordic Universities. For more information, contact Professor Mark Rhinard

Standing Group on International Relations

The Graduate School strongly supports the Standing Group on International Relations (SGIR), a European-wide standing group of the European Consortium for Political Research (ECPR). The SGIR organizes workshops, conferences and summer schools (including one at Stockholm University in June 2017). For more information, contact Dr. Lisa Dellmuth, SGIR Steering Group Member, Lecturer in International Relations at the Department of Economic History and International Relations, and Research Fellow at the Department of Political Science at Stockholm University.

Nuclear Proliferation International History Project

Stockholm University Graduate School of International Studies is a partner of the Nuclear Proliferation International History Project (NUPHI), coordinated by the Woodrow Wilson Center of International Scholars, Washington, DC. NUPHI is a global network of individuals and institutions engaged in the study of international nuclear history through archival documents, oral history interviews and other empirical sources. Recognizing that today’s toughest nuclear challenges have deep roots in the past, NPIHP seeks to transcend the East vs. West paradigm to work towards an integrated international history of nuclear weapon proliferation. NPIHP’s research aims to fill in the “blank and blurry” pages of nuclear history in order to contribute to robust scholarship and effective policy decisions. For more information, contact Professor Thomas Jonter.
