The Lithuanian EU Presidency - a discussion with Eitvydas Bajarūnas

The European Union faces a number of pressing challenges, including recovering from the Eurozone crisis, negotiating a new trade deal with the USA (under allegations of widespread spying), and repositioning itself in a world where power is shifting towards the south and east. Lithuania holds the next rotating presidency of the Council of the EU and is in a prime position to shape the EU agenda.

The Stockholm University Graduate School of International Studies (SIS) is pleased to welcome the Ambassador of Lithuania to Sweden, Eitvydas Bajarūnas, to present his country’s agenda and to discuss the challenges facing Europe. He will outline the priorities of the Lithuanian Presidency as promoting a “growing, credible and open Europe”. Special focus will be placed on the upcoming Eastern Partnership Summit in Vilnius, the EU’s energy policy and the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea region. Naturally, his talk will touch upon pathways out of the economic crisis, along with improving Europe’s investment climate. Sweden and Lithuania have a long history of bilateral ties, and we are pleased the Ambassador will join us to discuss the successes and struggles of his country's EU Presidency.
