Lena Fält is a PhD student at the Department of Human Geography, Stockholm University, Sweden. Her dissertation addresses how globally circulating norms and visions of urban planning affect the function and shape of African cities and by extension the everyday life of its residents. Further, it seeks to understand how different groups of urban residents respond to contemporary planning interventions in these cities. Lena has a master’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning from Stockholm University and has studied at Ardhi University in Tanzania. Lena’s research interests include urban imaginaries, processes of inclusion and exclusion in cities, everyday life and urban grassroots movements.
